The Edward G. Dykstra collection contains silver and ceramic pieces, books and magazines about crafts, design, and silverwork, photographs of silver work, and two Alfred University yearbooks. Mr. Dykstra attended the School for American Craftsmen (SAC) at Alfred University, graduating in 1948. The silver and ceramic pieces are bowls, pitchers, plates, a vase and a box created by either Mr. Dykstra or a contemporary of his from SAC. The Edward G. Dykstra collection includes seven pieces of silver and ceramic pieces made by Mr. Dykstra and signed "Dyke", others signed by "Flora." These include: small round metal plate with hand painted rooster on it; tall hammered metal (gold tone) vase with wooden base; large textured ceramic pot with interior white glaze; small green ceramic bowl with sterling silver cover; small ceramic cup with 2 covers; small sterling silver box hinged with yellow and green glass top and wooden interior; small sterling silver pitcher with dark wood handle. Also included in the collection are the 1948 and 1949 yearbooks from Alfred University, 21 matted 8 x 10 inch color photographs of silverware, some of which are in the collection, and several booklets: "Contemporary Silversmithing: The stretching method" Handy & Harman: New York, NY, 1952; Alfred University School for American Craftsmen publication, v.24, no.3, January 1948; RIT School for American Craftsmen bulletin, circa 1950; "Silverwork and Jewellery" by H. Wilson (Pitman).

Edward G. Dykstra was a 1949 graduate of the School for American Craftsmen at Alfred University. He studied metallurgy and was a member of the Craft Club at Alfred. Mr. Dykstra started Ethox, Inc., a company in Buffalo, NY that manufactured nylon. Nylon is manufactured using the gas ethlox, hence the name of the company.
